SAFETY

Our goal is zero accidents through mindfulness

By Diana Buss, Messer Group

Safety is the number one priority at Messer, just as it is across the industrial gases industry as a whole. It is therefore crucial that we keep reminding the entire Messer team of the importance of following all safety precautions meticulously. Regular initiatives such as the new poster campaign are also intended to raise overall safety awareness.

Industrial accidents are a horrific and traumatic experience for everyone concerned. In a bid to avoid them, we have implemented a universal safety system that underpins our continuous internal improvement of operational processes as well as all our product sales. We also have ongoing projects that are intended to increase Messer employees’ mindfulness and their fundamental awareness of safety risks. These include, for instance, the annual international Safety Day at Messer as well as the safety awards bestowed annually by the European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA). Messer’s fourth poster campaign continues this approach: eye-catching visuals, inspired by horror film posters, promote an enhanced level of concentration on warnings and safety rules. On the production floor, in offices and common rooms, different poster designs will be used successively during 2020 to illustrate the horror of industrial accidents. The first set includes four designs on the topics of personal protective equipment, filling gas tankers, operational discipline and the safe use of stairs. The viewer’s attention is initially drawn to the almost exaggerated image. Then they take in the accompanying text, which in each case explains the depressing fact that Messer employees have already fallen victim to tragic accidents. That is one more reason to be mindful and focused at work and to pay attention to your surroundings and colleagues. Mindfulness for the good of all – that is the leitmotif of the 2020 Safety Campaign.
