Belgium | In collaboration with the bio-refinery Alco Bio Fuel (ABF) and IJsfabriek Strombeek, Messer is building a second CO₂ recovery unit in Ghent. It will go into operation in 2022. Together with the first unit, which is already in service, the two units will then recover 160,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.
The biogenic gas is generated during the production of ethanol from biomass. Unlike in the conventional process, which releases that gas directly to the atmosphere, these two recovery units will capture it and make it available for CO₂ applications.
