Hungary | At the eTouring Car World Cup, a racing series for electrically powered cars, three teams are using fuel cell technology to charge their racecars: Hyundai, Alfa Romeo and Cupra. The racetracks are built for cars with internal combustion engines and generally do not provide any fast-charging stations. So the teams must rely on other power sources. They could use diesel generators, but that wouldn’t fit the ecological ethos of the race series. Instead, Hyundai, Alfa Romeo and Cupra use generators that use fuel cells to produce electricity from hydrogen. At the Hungaroring racetrack, the gas was supplied by Messer. And by the way: Last year, Team Cupra finished first and second in Hungary, thereby extending their lead in the overall rankings.
